Help: Installing Upgrades
|
Although Ensign Windows has been in the marketplace for over 14 years, Ensign Software continually makes improvements to the program to fix reported bugs, enhance existing features, and add new capabilities. The Internet has become a valuable tool for distributing upgrades to customers, and reducing the turn around time between a request and a published implementation. Users are encouraged to download upgrades through the Internet.
In Ensign Windows, click on the Internet Services button on the main toolbar, or click menu File | Open | Internet Services. The button image shows two computers connected (see below). The Internet Services form is displayed.
Click the Download tab. A few seconds later the form will show a list of dates by the download choices. The dates indicate when the files were updated by Ensign Software.
Select the desired download by clicking the circle next to the download description. The illustration shows the Ensign Windows Upgrade has been selected and the upgrade was updated on Apr 20th. Click the Download button to start the download. The download takes 10-12 minutes over a 28K modem, and under 2 minutes with a cable or DSL connection. While downloading, a progress bar indicates the download status.
A few seconds after the download finishes, Ensign Windows will exit. The installation program will run and present typical installation messages and prompts. Install the upgrade in the same default C:\Ensign folder where the present version is installed. Upon completion of the installation, Ensign Windows will run and you will see a more current version date on the initial splash screen.
Users are encouraged to regularly download and install the upgrades that are frequently posted to Ensign's web site. You can read the What's New page on the Ensign web site to learn about recent changes that have been made to the program. An oft asked question is, "Will I lose any of my chart data?" The answer is "No." You will not lose any of your chart data or change any of the customization you have done in setting up your studies, charts, layouts, templates or other parameters.
Uninstalling Ensign Windows:
For a regular installation, you should find Ensign Windows in the program list when using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs tool. If for some reason, Ensign Windows is not listed, then use Windows Explorer and search the C:\Ensign folder for an Uninstall.Exe program and double click on the entry to execute it.
If both of the above fail or can't be done, then go ahead and delete the C:\Ensign folder using Windows Explorer. What might have been removed from the Registry by the proper removal is trivial, and it will not cause any problems later. Ensign Windows uses ini files in the C:\Ensign\Inifile folder for remembering configuration parameter settings instead of the Registry.
