Setup: Excel Spreadsheet Link

To start a link to an Excel Spreadsheet select  Quotes | Link to Excel  from the Ensign Windows menu while viewing a custom Quote page.  When a new quote price is received by Ensign Windows, it will be passed to the spreadsheet.  This allows customized spreadsheet formulas and models to be used while using the real-time quote data from Ensign Windows.  The link uses OLE technology (not DDE) to connect real time quotes to the spreadsheet.  To disconnect the link, select  Quotes | Link to Excel  again.

Note: An Excel Link can also be started from an Options page.  Only one link should be active at any given time.  Do not attempt to link several quote pages or option pages at the same time.  If you leave Excel open after disconnecting the link, do not attempt to link again until you have exited Excel.  When you start the link again, then Excel will re-open.

Select  Set-Up | Excel Link  from the menu to view the Excel Link set-up window.

The  'File Name'  entry box is used to specify an Excel file.  For example, an entry of  C:\MYFILE.XLS  will cause the   MYFILE.XLS  file to be opened when the link is started.  Make sure that the file is not already open when the link is started.  To open a new blank spreadsheet file when the link is started, then clear the  'File Name'  entry box so that no file is specified.

The  'Sheet Name'  entry box is used to specify a Sheet.  The link will be made to the specified sheet in the spreadsheet file.  For example, an entry of    ‘Sheet1’   will cause the link to be made to  Sheet1  of the spreadsheet file.

The ‘Number of Columns to Send’  entry box is used to specify the number of columns on the Quote page to link to the spreadsheet.  For example, an entry of  8  will link the first  8  columns in the Quote page to the spreadsheet.  Arrange the custom quote page columns in the order desired to appear in the spreadsheet.

The  ‘Column’ and ‘Row’  entry boxes are used to specify a Top Left starting point in the spreadsheet.  For example, an entry of  5 (for the Column) and 10 (for the Row)  will cause the Quote page link to start on Column 5, Row 10, of the spreadsheet.

Note:  The ESPL programming language can be used to read and write custom information to Excel.  See the ESPL help documentation for more information.
