Files: Data Downloader

Ensign Windows can be used without a real-time data-feed source. Select 'Ensign Internet' as the 1st Data Source on the Setup | Connection form if you do not subscribe to a live data-feed. The Ensign Internet connection allows you to download and view chart data but you will not receive live quotes, news, and other real-time services that a full data-feed would provide. The Ensign Internet selection is ideal for end-of-day traders who want to view charts and have technical analysis tools but do not want to pay for a real-time data-feed. The Ensign Internet selection also allows you to use the Playback feature to back-test and paper-trade your trading ideas.

The download feature automatically merges the data into existing Ensign chart files, or starts a new chart file.   This feature allows Ensign users to update charts without subscribing to a real-time data-feed or to an end-of-day data service.  Since Ensign Internet is not a data feed the charts to not have a live update.   But they can be refreshed to show bars through a delay requirement, such as 10 minutes ago for the ES e-mini.

Internet Services:
Click the  'Download Data'  button to open the Internet Services window.

Enter Chart Symbols in the Download symbols list.  Enter chart Time Frames in the six entry boxes.  Use 'D' for daily, 'W' for weekly, and 'M' for monthly time frames.

The example above will download a 5-minute, 30-minute, 60-minute, daily, weekly and monthly chart for each symbol on the list.  Click a  Download  button to start the download process.  A chart data will be downloaded and merged for each Chart Symbol and Time Frame.  Nine tabs at the bottom of the window allow you to set-up multiple download lists.  Click a tab and then enter Chart Symbols and Time Frames for the particular tab list.  Each tab will remember its unique list of Symbols and Time Frames.

Though the above example shows using the Internet Services form to download data for a group of symbols, the simple action of opening a chart can automatically refresh the chart so that it downloads the data from the refresh source.   Check the Auto Refresh options on the Setup | Charts form.   read more » Auto Refresh
