Charts: Overview

Previous | Next

Charting is the most powerful feature in Ensign Windows.  Multiple chart windows can be displayed at the same time.  Each chart can be customized with studies, lines, alerts, colors, bar spacing, and chart types.  Chart data can be easily edited, deleted, zoomed, saved to ASCII files, printed, and adjusted for price splits.  The software can automatically build a chart for any symbol, and in any time frame. Spread Charts and Chart Overlays can also be displayed.

A chart will display the price movement of a specific symbol.  The price data can be displayed as Bars, Lines, or Candlesticks.  Chart studies, line tools, and trading systems can be applied to a chart window to provide technical analysis for your trading decisions.

When a Chart Window is displayed, several buttons on the Toolbars will be enabled.  The buttons are used to activate chart templates, zoom-in, zoom-out, auto scale the chart, delete selected bars, switch chart time frames, select chart types, activate studies, draw lines and tools, color bars, and view a list of objects on the chart.

Double click on the chart background to display the Chart Properties screen.  This screen allows you to customize the colors, styles, scale, and all aspects of the individual chart.  Chart windows can be arranged on the screen in any location or configuration.  Select the Windows menu to Cascade, Tile Horizontal, Tile Vertical, or Close the windows.  Since several windows can be open at the same time, make sure that a chart window is 'Active' (has the focus) before requesting an action on that window.

Chart data can be collected and displayed for any symbol.  The chart data is stored into many different folders on the hard disk depending on the market group and time frame.  When a chart is requested, the appropriate data is loaded and displayed in the chart window.

Sub-windows can be enabled to show bar data, study data, and line data.  When a study is applied to a chart, the study may be plotted in the main chart window, or in a study sub-window.

To save all the chart lines, studies, and objects without closing the chart, select Charts | Save Objects from the menu.
