Access Violation Errors are caused by many different reasons. The most common reason may be corrupted memory and/or low resources.
Step #1:
If you receive an 'Access Violation Error' you will need to clear memory by exiting ALL programs and shutting down your computer for 1 minute (Note: just clicking OK to remove the pop-up error does not remove it from your system - it is still lying resident on your computer in the background and will show up again and again on your screen at later times). This simple memory clearance by shutting down your computer may resolve the problem. If the error persists follow Step #2 below.
Step #2:
Make sure you are using the current version of Ensign Windows. Click menu File | Open | Internet Services and select the 'Download' tab to check your version date and to see if there is an newer upgrade:
If a newer 'Ensign Program Update' exists, please click the 'Download' button to download and install the latest release. This may solve the Access Violation Error. If the error still persists follow Step #3 below.
Step #3:
Run a maintenance:
- Click menu Window | Close All Windows.
- Click menu Setup | Charts and select the 'Maintenance' tab.
- Select 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 on the left.
- Click the 'Perform Selected Tasks' button (this will un-check everything on the left).
- Click OK and completely exit the Ensign Windows program.
- Re-start Ensign Windows (this should solve the Access Violation Error).
If the error still persists follow Step #4 below.
Step #4:
The solution may require you to download the Debug Version of Ensign Windows. This program will automatically send your 'Access Violation Error' reports to the Ensign Windows programmers for review:
- Click menu File | Open | Internet Services and select the 'Download' tab.
- Select the 'Version with Debug aides' bullet and click the 'Download' button to download and install the Ensign Windows version with debug aides.
- After the installation is finished...start the Ensign Windows program and click menu Help | Enable Debug Mode which will turn ON the debug mode and in-turn send error messages you receive directly to the Ensign Windows programmers for help in determining the problem.
