Charts: How to see seasonal trends?
|
Q: I meant to say Seasonal Trends data...e.g. corn is usually in a downtrend until July 4, then rallies until Sept, then short until Dec.... That kind of info, that when applied to a daily, weekly or monthly chart shows where the market is now in comparison to where it is seasonally. Another good example of this is feeder cattle which "usually" drop until mid/late march when they begin their rally into July.
This would have to be an additional indicator that could be overlaid onto a chart. I understand that it is not necessarily accurate depending on the conditions of the market at the time but as in the case of feeder cattle, would make a huge difference in whether a person went long or not. Seeing the bullish action and the "seasonal trend" would be another good confirmation that a high probability trade was at hand.
A: You can see seasonal trends by forward shifting an overlay, like this example. The host chat in yellow is C #F. The overlay in blue is also C #F, with the offset being 248 bars. Thus April of last year is aligned with April of this year.
