Chat: Starting a new private room

Q:  I've been thinking for awhile about starting a room in Ensign strictly for YM traders.  First, a few questions.

What is the process for starting a room?  Would it also have Ventrilo capability?  Does the room have "boot" capability, i.e., kicking out unruly individuals?  I know I could get a password.  Can I change the password as often as desired?  I don't plan to charge money, at least for awhile.  But if I decided to do that eventually, would that still be something between me and room attendants.  I think that was the previous policy, as I recall.

A:  All is as you say.  Yes you can have a chat room and also a Ventrilo voice room.   Both can be password protected.  As a room administrator you can boot someone out and you can change the password as often as you want.  Whether you charge a fee is between you and your patrons.

Q:  Friends of mine and I, all Ensign Windows customers, would like to form a private Ensign chat room together. Could someone at Ensign help us arrange this? Also, we would be posting proprietary images, would those remain private with daCharts as the image webserver?  If not, could you advise me of potential problems of using a folder on my personal home page as the FTP web server for images?  (My home page accepts FTP and has 10 Mgs or more of space available.)  Thank you very much for the help.  Ensign chat is a wonderful tool that we are looking forward to employing fully.

A:  You can set up your own room and password protect it.  Watch the Chat room training videos.  You would have to edit your Setup | Images form to do the FTP upload of the chart files to your personal internet site. The dacharts site that is the default is public and so the charts you post there can be viewed by anyone.   To use your personal site, you need to tell me add the path involved on the form for the Chat room setup so the program know your site is an approved site so your posts will auto show in the chat room viewer.

Q:  I have just taken a look at the new chat room.  On the Chat tab after signing into my room, the administrator is indicated as "andy".   In your message, you mentioned that you are assigning me as the administrator.  Could you please advise me on the difference here?  Thanks.

A:  The information field labeled Administrator just shows me the nickname of who last edited this form.  It is by using the admin password that makes you the administrator for the room and then you can edit the room's setup to change it.  As a room administrator, you can change the access password as well as the admin password.  You can share the admin password with others and they will then have admin privileges like you.
