Charts: Constant Volume bars changing when refreshed

Q:  I am using constant volume bar charts.  I have the volume cap box checked and I refresh data every morning just after market open at 9:30ET.  If I do a one or two day data refresh later during that day, most of the bars from the open to the time of the refresh, will have changed.  By change, I mean the open, close, high and low of each bar is likely to be different then before the refresh. I usually have to do a refresh during the day because I am running Ensign on my laptop which needs to be powered down during transit.   Should the bars be changing like this or should I being doing something differently

A:  Click menu Setup | Charts and have the New Volume Bar at Open option checked.  This will help to provide a point to sync the chart and the refresh that you do later.  The tick refresh from eSignal usually is quite identical to their broadcast, so the change if any should be minor.   However, any inserted or missing tick or different volume will have a ripple effect of affecting every bar thereafter.  Some ticks that set a bar's open or close might be bumped to the prior or to the next bar and thus change the bar's opens and closes.  Highs and Lows are less likely to be changed, but they can be.

You can uncheck the option on Setup | Charts for   Cap Constant Volume.  Then there will be greater likelihood that the refresh ticks will stay in sync with the collected ticks for building bars.   One big tick, for example, will top of the bar under construction and be in synch for starting a new volume bar.    When you have the Cap Constant Volume option checked, then any extra tick, or missing tick, or tick with a different volume will have a cumulative ripple effect on the building of every bar thereafter.  The refresh chart will be different than the collected chart because of a single difference in one tick.
